BBP Wildfire Teach In Fundraiser 2024
Supporting Areas of Greatest Need
Held by Lisa Mortimore
Dear BBP Colleagues,
We are looking ahead to the promise of a beautiful summer, and we are aware that it is forecasted to be an intense and devastating fire season. With this in mind, we wanted to offer our Wildfire Workshop in preparation, as wildfire season begins.
As therapists, we know first hand the devastating and debilitating impact of trauma of all sorts. Last summer was a particularly devastating fire season for many folks impacted by wildfires, with many people losing their homes, their stability, and their ground -there was an immensity of destruction both to humans and wildlife.
As you know, BBP is dedicated not only to the education and evolution of therapists, we continue to support animal charity organizations by raising funds. We offered it in September 2023 and raised 1775.00 for the BC SPCA, with just over 40 therapists in attendance!!! The BC SPCA continues to work tirelessly to respond to the ever increasing need to provide safe shelter and care for animals, including those that will be evacuated due to wildfires.
We imagine that many people that have been impacted by the wildfires, or are feeling anxious about the looming season, will find their way to your clinical practice in the coming days and months. In searching for our best way to respond, we have decided to once again offer an online evening workshop dedicated to working with incident trauma, specifically wildfires, for the BBP community - for current students or those who have completed the two year training, as well as therapists who have completed a workshop with us. For some of you, this will be a deepening of the work regarding incident trauma (with wildfires as a specific focus) and for others who haven't yet completed clinic five, this will be new material. Sitting with the immense loss, terror, and disruption embedded in natural disasters such as this, calls for therapists to inhabit their most stable and expanded selves to bear witness to the enormity of what is being faced, both individually and in the collective.
In lieu of a fee, we are inviting you to make a minimum 40.00 donation to the BC SPCA (see specific link below). By donating, this will register you for the workshop and we will send you a zoom evite close to the date. The BC SPCA will send you a tax receipt for your donation.
Thursday April 25th, 6:30 - 9 pm, PT
